CHARLIES SPORTS NEWS FOR NFL

AUGUST 2009

NFL Quarterback Sidelined
Quarterback Carson Palmer is expected to miss another preseason game because of a sprained left ankle.

Palmer didn't participate in the Cincinnati Bengals' practice Monday, getting treatment on his ankle instead. Palmer suffered the injury during the preseason opener, and sat out a game last Thursday against New England. He's not expected to play Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams at Paul Brown Stadium. Palmer said Monday he's confident he'll be ready for the season opener against the Denver Broncos because the ankle is getting better each day.
NFL'S Dolphins Make Trade
The Miami Dolphins traded offensive linemen Andy Alleman and Ikechuku Ndukwe to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday for an undisclosed 2010 draft choice.

Ndukwe started 15 games at right guard for Miami last season after an injury to Donald Thomas. Alleman played in 15 games and made four starts last season. Earlier Monday, the Dolphins terminated the contract of receiver Ernest Wilford and waived running back Anthony Kimble, nose tackle Joe Cohen and linebackers Orion Martin and Tearrius George. Receiver Chris Williams was waived injured.
Ailing NFL Team Looses Center
Seahawks center Chris Spencer is out at least a month for a torn thigh muscle.

Coach Jim Mora told Seattle radio station KJR on Monday morning that Spencer tore the quadriceps muscle in his left leg and will 'absolutely' miss at least the first two regular season games. Spencer was taken off the field by a motorized cart in the second quarter of Saturday night's preseason win over Denver. Steve Vallos and rookie second-round draft choice Max Unger are expected to get the first shots to replace him. Seattle is already without nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Walter Jones. The 35-year-old had his second knee surgery in eight months last week.
NFL Player Nursing Sore Elbow
Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel will miss at least a week with an injured left elbow.

Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel will miss at least a week with an injured left elbow. The team's top pass rusher did not practice Monday in Buffalo's first session since a 31-21 loss at Green Bay on Saturday. Without divulging the nature of the injury, coach Dick Jauron said it's not considered a "long, long-term" problem, but could keep Schobel out for a week or so. The Bills have two preseason games left and next play at Pittsburgh on Saturday. Receiver Terrell Owens continues to miss practice while nursing a sprained toe he injured in the Hall of Fame game against Tennessee on Aug. 9. Jauron said the injury is improving, but wouldn't provide a timetable on Owens' return.
