CHARLIES SPORTS COLLEGE FOOTBALL SPORTS NEWS - JUNE 2009

Mississippi State College Football Player Arrested
Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon was arrested over the weekend.

An arrest report from the Starkville Police Department says Dixon was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers found him intoxicated late Saturday night with two empty champagne bottles on the floorboard of his car. Mississippi State spokesman Joe Galbraith says coach Dan Mullen is still trying to gather facts before deciding on disciplinary action and won't comment yet.
Another Alabama University NCAA College Footall Player Set To Transfer
Another Alabama reserve plans to leave the football program.

Special teamer Chris Jackson's high school offensive coordinator said Jackson has been granted permission to speak with other schools about transferring. Rex Robertson of Henry County High School in Georgia said Jackson had not yet spoken with other schools but wants to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
University Of South Florida College Football Player Fall From Ride At Busch Gardens

A University of South Florida football player was recovering at a hospital after falling 35 feet from a gondola ride while working at Busch Gardens in Tampa, team officials said.

Team officials identified the player as Maikon Bonani, 20, USF's starting kicker. The park did not immediately release the employee's name or the extent of his injuries, said spokeswoman Jill Revelle. The employee was working Saturday at the Skyride attraction. After sending passengers on a gondola out of the station, the employee thought the door might be unlocked and held onto the door to check it while guests sat on the ride, according to a park statement. He held on as the gondola took off — then 35 feet above the ground — let go and dropped into a landscaped area, the statement added.
Holtz, Cooper And Aikman Head College Football Hall Of Fame Class
Lou Holtz and John Cooper were enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night wishing they had another team to lead out on the field.

"I would love to get back coaching. I miss coaching. I miss the competition. I miss game day," said Cooper, who coached at Ohio State, Arizona State and Tulsa. "I don't miss compliance and academics and recruiting." Holtz couldn't speak much louder than a whisper after coaching a group of former Notre Dame players for three days as they practiced for an exhibition game in Japan. He still sounded like his old self, though, hardly giving his team a chance against the Japanese.
