KU Mens College Basketball Merchandise Soars After 2008 Championship
A University of Kansas official says sales of licensed University of Kansas merchandise increased dramatically after the school's 2008 basketball championship.
Sales of Kansas merchandise topped $47.3 million in 2008 after the men's basketball team won its national championship.
David Mucci, director of the KU Memorial Unions, compared that to sales after the school's 1988 championship. His best estimate is that about $1.5 million in licensed Kansas merchandise was purchased after that championship.
Former UCLA NCAA Mens College Basketball Coach Honered As Sports Greatest Coach
John Wooden's friends, family and former players all say they didn't need an award from a national magazine to confirm the identity of the greatest coach in American sports history.
Yet Sporting News Magazine made it official Wednesday, recognizing the 98-year-old Wooden as the pinnacle of a profession that was redefined by the UCLA coach over his unmatched career in Westwood.
During a luncheon in the John Wooden Room at one of his favorite restaurants in Sherman Oaks, the coach saw the real reward for a life spent teaching, mentoring and improving lives: A room packed to overflowing with the recipients of those lessons, from his daughter, Nan, to current UCLA coach Ben Howland, to former Bruins center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Michigan State Mens College Basketball Player Say's Team Is Ready For Upcoming Season
As a sophomore, Kalin Lucas was named Big Ten player of the year, outdueled All-American Sherron Collins in an NCAA Tournament game and led his team to the Final Four—which just happened to be contested in Lucas' hometown, Detroit.
That dream finish to his second season at Michigan State was torched in 40 minutes by North Carolina, which blew out the Spartans in one of the few lopsided championship games of the past 30 years.
With many of his best teammates back—including forwards Delvon Roe and Raymar Morgan and guards Chris Allen and Durrell Summers—Lucas would like to finish the job right this time."
