NBA Star Signs Extension With Suns

Steve Nash has decided to accept a contract extension with the Phoenix Suns, ESPN.com reports.

The 35-year-old's contract was due to expire at the end of the upcoming season, but he now is locked up for two more years, through the 2011-12 season. The extension is worth about $22 million, according to the report. All of the $13.1 million Nash was due to be paid this season is guaranteed now, as well.

NBA Team Waives Veteran Earl Watson

The Oklahoma City Thunder have waived guard Earl Watson. Watson, an eight-year NBA veteran, appeared in 68 games and started in 18 with Oklahoma City this past season and averaged 6.6 points, 5.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 26.1 minutes per contest. Watson, a 6-1 guard out of UCLA, holds career averages of 7.3 points, 4.6 assists, 2.2 rebounds in 597 career games with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Denver Nuggets, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Seattle Supersonics.

Memphis signs Number 2 Overall NBA Draft Pick

First-round draft pick Hasheem Thabeet has signed with the Memphis Grizzlies. The 7-foot-3 center from Connecticut was the second pick in the draft. Thabeet is due to make about $7.7 million over two years under the rookie salary scale. Thabeet is the first Tanzanian-born player drafted by an NBA team. He averaged 13.6 points, nearly 11 rebounds and 4 blocks per game at UConn last season and was named Big East co-player of the year.

Judge Dismisses SEC Case Against NBA Owner

A federal judge dismissed a civil insider-trading lawsuit against Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban on Friday, dealing the Securities and Exchange Commission a rare high-profile setback. U.S. District Judge Sidney A. Fitzwater ruled that the commission could not hold Cuban liable for insider trading because the agency didn't allege the billionaire NBA team owner had agreed not to trade based on confidential information he received about an Internet search engine company, Mamma.com Inc.
