NBA Player Checks Into Rehabilitation Center

Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley checked into an unidentified Houston rehabilitation hospital over the weekend, multiple sources told yahoo Sports. Sources said the Heat encouraged Beasley to check into the facility to address possible substance and psychological issues. He is expected to spend time with former NBA player and coach John Lucas, who is renown for his success in working with troubled players. NBA'S Player Arrested For DUI

Nuggets reserve forward Renaldo Balkman has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Florida. Balkman, 25, was arrested by Temple Terrace, Fla., officers at 4 a.m. Saturday after he refused a blood-alcohol test, according to a police report on the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Web site. Balkman was released after posting $500 bond. Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien said the team was aware of Balkman's arrest but declined further comment "out of respect for the legal process.

NBA Team Signs Rookie

The Portland Trail Blazers signed draft pick Dante Cunningham to a multiyear contract on Friday. The 6-foot-8 power forward was the 33rd overall pick in the June draft out of Villanova. He averaged 16.1 points and 7.5 rebounds last season as a senior and was named the Big East's most improved player. "This is a dream come true and I can't wait to get to work with my teammates," Cunningham said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to moving to Portland and helping this team in any way that I can." He will wear No. 33 for the Blazers.

NBA Clippers Waive Madsen

The Los Angeles Clippers have waived forward Mark Madsen. Madsen was acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves on July 22 along with Sebastian Telfair and Craig Smith in exchange for Quentin Richardson. The Clippers' roster currently stands at 12 players.
