CHARLIES SPORTS NBA BASKETBALL SPORTS NEWS - AUGUST 2009

NBA Team Resigns Big Baby Davis
The Boston Celtics are bringing back Glen "Big Baby" Davis.
The Celtics announced Monday that they've re-signed the power forward to a new deal. It's reportedly for two years. Davis, a two-year pro out of Louisiana State, was a restricted free agent. After averaging 7 points per game during the regular season, the 6-foot-9, 289-pound forward emerged in the playoffs, improving to 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
NBA'S Nuggets Lose Player To Europe
Restricted free agent forward Linas Kleiza of the Denver Nuggets is taking his game to Europe. Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien says Kleiza has chosen to play for Olympiakos, agreeing to a two-year deal worth more than $12 million. Warkentien said Kleiza's agent, Bill Duffy, informed him of the signing Monday. Duffy was flying back from Europe and unavailable for comment. Kleiza was extended a qualifying offer by the Nuggets in June, making the backup player a restricted free agent and guaranteeing him a $2.7 million salary this season.
NBA Team Names Former Laker Head Coach
Kurt Rambis has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. The team said terms would not be disclosed, but scheduled a news conference for later Monday. Rambis is scheduled to be introduced as coach on Tuesday. The 51-year-old Rambis has been an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers for most of the past seven seasons. He's also a former champion with the Lakers. He replaces Kevin McHale, who was let go seven weeks ago. Rambis was one of three finalists, with TV commentator and former NBA star Mark Jackson and Houston assistant Elston Turner.
NBA Draft Picks Resting summer Injuries
Blake Griffin grabbed a microphone for a little practice working in TV. Tyler Hansbrough pulled up a chair and watched one. There's not much else for the two rookies to do until they can get back on the court. Griffin and Hansbrough are injured, sending the All-Americans to the sidelines and away from basketball activities after promising starts to their pro careers during summer league play. They were in New York on Sunday along with their classmates for the rookie photo shoot, where the NBA's first-year players were photographed by Panini in the poses that will appear on their trading cards.
