Demoted Major League Baseball Pitcher Strikes out 13 In A Row

Ian Snell is trying to make his stay in the minor leagues brief. The former Pittsburgh Pirates ace struck out 17 batters, including 13 in a row, in a Triple-A game Sunday. Snell was making his first start for the Pirates' top affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians, after being demoted Thursday.

After walking the game's leadoff batter, Snell fanned the next 13 Toledo Mud Hens. Brent Dlugach ended the streak with a one-out single in the fifth inning.

MLB Team Sends Player To Minors

Infielder Josh Barfield has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus by the Cleveland Indians, clearing a roster spot for newly acquired right-hander Chris Perez.

Perez was acquired Saturday from St. Louis for third baseman Mark DeRosa and reported Monday. He was 1-1 with one save and a 4.18 ERA in 29 relief appearances for St. Louis, allowing two of 15 inherited runners to score.

MLB franchis Sets Up Internet Broadcast

The San Diego Padres are following the New York Yankees onto the Internet with live local-market video broadcasts.

The Padres, Cox Communications San Diego and MLB Advanced Media announced an agreement Monday that starts broadcasts July 16 for customers of Cox's high speed Internet service. It will cost $49.95 for the rest of the season or $19.95 for any 30-day period, matching the price for Yankees games for Cablevision subscribers who get YES and Cablevision's Optimum online service.

MLB Prospect Suspended 100 Games For Positive Drug Test

top pitching prospect in the Brewers' organization has been suspended for 100 games for testing positive a second time for a "drug of abuse," baseballamerica.com reports.

That leaves RHP Jeremy Jeffress, 21, one positive test from a lifetime ban under the Minor League Drug Treatment and Prevention program, the report says. Jeffress is pitching for high class A Brevard County after being demoted from AA Huntsville last month.
